NORFOLK, Va. – Norfolk State head coach
Robert Jones was named a finalist to two prestigious awards this week, both by CollegeInsider.com.
Â
Jones made the list of finalists for the 2022-23 Ben Jobe National Coach of the Year award, while also receiving the finalist recognition for the 2022-23 Skip Prosser Man of the Year award.
Â
The first accolade is named after Ben Jobe, best known for his 12 seasons as head coach of Southern University where he amassed 209 wins and four NCAA Tournament appearances. The award is given annually to the top minority coach in Division I college basketball.
Â
The Skip Prosser Man of the Year award honors those who not only achieve success on the basketball court, but who display moral integrity off it as well. It is named after former Wake Forest head coach, winning 100 games at an ACC school quicker than all but two coaches in the conference's 55-year history.
Â
This prestigious achievement is nothing new for the Spartan head coach. Jones won the Skip Prosser Man of the Year award in 2018-19, while also earning the Ben Jobe National Coach of the Year award in 2021-22.
