NORFOLK, Va. | Norfolk State University head football coach Dawson Odums said on Saturday that the Spartans continue to improve and build during the second week of spring camp.
"This was another good opportunity for us to scrimmage and see what we need to improve and build upon," Odums said.
On Saturday, the Spartans wrapped up their eighth spring practice, which consisted of a scrimmage of 75 to 80 plays inside Willliam "Dick" Price Stadium. The scrimmage provided an opportunity for the coaching staff to continue to install new plays.
"We are installing each day and putting in new additional stuff," Odums said. "We've got a certain number of things we want to work on (this spring) and this second week we added a little bit more than we did the previous week. Next week, our third week, we will add more to the game plan, and during that final week, we will see what we may have not seen from the offense, defense and special teams and get some work on those areas.
"The freshmen get older, sophomores get older and juniors get older. We don't have a lot of seniors and that is part of the rebuilding process. I like our talent and think we got some great guys coming in to add to it."
Norfolk State continued its spring schedule slate this past week with four practices as the Spartans prepare for the annual spring scrimmage on Saturday, April 8 at Dick Price Stadium. That same day, the NSU football program will be hosting a ton of recruits for junior day.
NSU begins the 2023 season on September 2 in the Labor Day Classic against Virginia State. The following week, the Spartans visit rival Hampton on September 9.
