Gravely’s Versatility Headlines Strong NSU Showing at Virginia Quadrangular

| By:
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Norfolk State women's track and field team completed a strong showing at the Virginia Quadrangular on Saturday, the Spartans' second week of action in the outdoor season.

Norfolk State battled the wind throughout the day, competing against Virginia, Saint Francis, and Liberty at Lannigan Field.

Armani Harris and De'Niya Gravely nabbed top-three finishes, finishing third in the 400 meters (57.78) and 100 meters (12.00), respectively. The 400-meter time marked a personal record for Harris.

Freshman Brooklyn Robinson zoomed to fourth in the 100 meter hurdles at 14.21 seconds, beating the personal best of 14.32 she had set the week prior. She also helped the Spartans' 4x100 relay team (Indya Richards, Gravely, Allysia Farrar, and Robinson) take second with a time of 48.28.

Zion Smith followed closely behind Robinson in the 100 meter hurdles, crossing the finish line in 14.57 seconds.

In addition to her dominance on the track, Gravely shined in field events as well. Her 37-foot, 9.5-inch triple jump earned a second-place finish.

Freshmen Tamesia Pinnix and Essence Shaw made their mark in the long jump, taking fourth (17-11.5) and fifth (17-6), respectively. The performances marked personal bests of both of their young collegiate careers.

Arieana Parker posted a hammer throw of 152 feet, one inch to finish eighth, while Shonte Seale earned sixth in the high jump by clearing a height of five feet, one inch.

Leslie Young took fifth in the shot put with a 44-foot, 3.5-inch toss.
