NORFOLK, Va. | Norfolk State University Assistant Athletics Director for Sports Communications Brian Howard was named Sports Information Director of the Year by Black Colleges Nines.
 
Howard was recognized for his coverage of Norfolk State baseball by the website, which is dedicated to covering HBCU baseball nationwide. This is the first time Howard has garnered the honor and the fourth time a member of the Norfolk State Sports Information staff has earned the award (Matthew Michalec in 2017, 2021 and 2022).
 
Howard joined NSU athletics in early December 2022 from Grambling State University. Among his career highlights, he as been a member of the College Sports Communicators (previously CoSIDA) Division I Cabinet for the past two years and served as chair of Sports Information Directors during Fall of 2022 in the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC). Howard has previously worked in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) and three SWAC institutions.
