UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Norfolk State women's track and field team continued to improve in its fourth meet of the season, putting together another strong performance at the Sykes & Sabock Challenge.
Competing at Penn State for the second consecutive week, the Spartans tallied 11 top-10 finishes. NSU senior
Indya Richards and freshman Yvone Sandui led the way with pair of runner-up accolades.
Sandui completed the 3,000 meters in 9 minutes, 54.98 seconds, just six seconds shy of the program's school record in her second collegiate meet. Kimaiyo followed closely behind, taking fifth in 10:04.65, while also setting a personal record in the mile (5:02.20).
The Spartans tallied two of the top three finishers in the 60-meter hurdles. Richards took second in 8.50 seconds, while
Brooklyn Robinson followed narrowly behind at 8.61 seconds for third. Robinson set her PR in the event with an 8.57 in the preliminary heats.
Richards notched another strong performance in the 60-meter dash. The senior clocked in at 7.71 seconds, placing fifth --- fourth amongst collegiate competitors.
Armani Harris continued to provide steady leadership at the 400-meter distance. The senior took fourth in the 400 meters (58.20), while helping the 4x400 meter relay squad place third (3:50.00)
Freshman Leanna Lewis set a personal record in the 800 meters, completing the event in 2 minutes, 16.52 seconds to place eighth.
Leslie Young led the Spartans in the field event, taking seventh in both the shot put (44-0.5) and weight throw (56-0.5).
