Spartans Fight Back in the Second Half Before Falling to Cowboys

LARAMIE, Wyo. – The Norfolk State Spartans' late rally came up short on Sunday afternoon, falling 75-67 to the University of Wyoming Cowboys in Laramie.

Anthony McComb III and Elijah Jamison led the Spartans with 19 points each, with McComb adding a team-high six rebounds.

Norfolk State opened the game with early momentum on a layup from Jamison and two free throws by Keyontae Lewis, but Wyoming quickly countered with a 16-2 run to build a 16-6 lead by the 12:36 mark. The Cowboys maintained control the rest of the half, taking a 39-23 advantage into the break. NSU scored nine points from the field and added eight more at the free throw line, finishing 10-of-15 from the stripe in the opening period.

Jamison knocked down a pair of jumpers, Devon Ellis connected from deep, and Melo Baines tallied a layup to round out NSU's first-half scoring.

Wyoming pushed its lead above 20 early in the second half, going up by as many as 24 at 49-25 with 15 minutes remaining. From there, the Spartans began to chip away. McComb sparked the comeback with five straight points before Dian Wright-Forde added back-to-back layups. McComb and Jordan Leaks each hit a three-pointer to bring NSU within 56-40.

A three-pointer from Yel Deeng trimmed the margin to nine, 56-47, with 7:30 remaining. Wyoming answered with a 9-4 run to restore a 65-51 cushion.

Jamison halted the push with a three-pointer, and Wright-Forde added three free throws as NSU closed the gap to 65-58 entering the final two minutes. Forced to foul down the stretch, the Spartans saw the Cowboys seal the game at the line, as Wyoming went a perfect 10-of-10 in the closing minutes to secure the 75-67 win.
