NORFOLK, Va. – Norfolk State senior guard Elijah Jamison was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Men's Basketball Player of the Week, while freshman guard Adrean Newton earned Rookie of the Week honors, the league announced Monday afternoon.
Jamison totaled 68 points over three games, averaging 22.7 points per contest. He added nine rebounds, eight assists, and three steals while logging 85 minutes of action during the week.
Against Grambling State, Jamison set a then career-high with 26 points on 10-of-21 shooting while going 6-of-8 from the free throw line. He surpassed that mark the following night versus Jackson State, pouring in 30 points on an ultra-efficient 8-of-10 performance from the field, including a perfect 5-of-5 from three-point range and 9-of-9 at the charity stripe. Jamison capped the weekend with 12 points in a 72–71 victory over UTEP.
Newton turned in an impressive all-around performance across three games, totaling 19 points, 12 assists, four rebounds, and one steal in 61 minutes of action. He shot 7-of-11 from the field, went a perfect 3-of-3 from beyond the arc, and finished 2-of-4 at the free throw line.
In the win over Jackson State, Newton recorded 10 points and a team-high seven assists, leading all players in assists for the game.
