NORFOLK, Va. --- Graduate guard
Diamond Johnson will receive the General Douglas MacArthur Memorial Award from the Norfolk Sports Club on Wednesday, April 23 at The Norfolk Sports Club's 78th Annual Jamboree.
The award is presented to an outstanding collegiate athlete who attended a Virginia High School. Johnson attended Phoebus High School in Hampton, Va. as a freshman and sophomore. She averaged 29.6 points as a freshman and 33.1 points as a sophomore before moving back to her hometown of Philadelphia, Pa.
Johnson has put together a stellar season for the Spartans, averaging 19.0 points, 6.1 rebounds, 4.1 assists, and 3.6 steals per game. Johnson has also been named to two prestigious post season award watchlists: The Dawn Staley Award and Becky Hammon Mid-Major Player of the Year.
Johnson received MEAC Player of the Year honors for her performances in conference play. She also ranks fourth in the nation this season for total steals.
The event is open to the public. The festivities will include dinner with tickets starting at $85 per person or $650 for a table of eight. Tickets must be purchased in advance through the Chartway Arena Box Office at 757-683-4444.
