BOSTON, Mass. ---- The Norfolk State women's basketball team received the No. 4 ranking, marking its highest spot on the poll in program history in the latest College Insider Mid Major Women's Basketball Top 25.

The recognition comes after its third consecutive MEAC Tournament title, taking down Howard in the championship 68-56. The Spartans earned a No. 13 seed on selection Sunday for the NCAA Tournament this week, marking the highest seed in program history. 
 
In its 15th season of existence, the mid-major poll recognizes the top teams from the following conferences: America East, Atlantic Sun, Big Sky, Big South, Big West, Coastal Athletic, Conference USA, Horizon, Independent, Ivy, Metro Atlantic, Mid-American, Mid-Eastern, Missouri Valley, Northeast, Ohio Valley, Patriot, Southern, Southland, Southwestern, Summit, Sun Belt, West Coast, Western Athletic.  
 
The No. 13 seed Spartans will face No. 4 seed Maryland in the NCAA Tournament First Round at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Mar. 22 in College Park, Md.
