McComb and Newton Repeat as Weekly MEAC Award Winners

NORFOLK, Va. – Norfolk State senior guard Anthony McComb III was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Men's Basketball Player of the Week, while freshman guard Adrean Newton earned Rookie of the Week honors, the league announced Monday afternoon.

McComb powered the Spartans to a pair of home victories over Elizabeth City State and Coppin State. Against the Vikings, McComb led Norfolk State with a game-high 25 points, shooting an efficient 7-of-11 from the field. He added a team-best seven rebounds, three assists and one steal, while connecting on 3-of-6 attempts from beyond the arc and 8-of-9 at the free throw line.

In the win over Coppin State, McComb recorded a career-high 29 points, shooting 10-of-16 from the floor, including 6-of-11 from three-point range and 3-of-4 at the charity stripe. He also contributed six assists, three rebounds and three steals.

McComb has now earned MEAC Player of the Week honors twice this season, also claiming the award on Jan. 12.

Newton registered seven points on perfect shooting, going 3-of-3 from the field, including one three-pointer. He added two rebounds, three assists and one steal on the week. The honor marks Newton's third Rookie of the Week award this season.

The Spartans return to action tonight at 7 p.m. against Morgan State inside Joseph G. Echols Memorial Hall.
