Norfolk State’s Kevon King Headed to NFL HBCU Showcase

NORFOLK, Va. — Norfolk State running back Kevon King has been selected to participate in the 2026 NFL HBCU Showcase, the National Football League announced.

The event, held in partnership with the Black College Football Hall of Fame and NFL International, will take place March 28-30 in Ashburn, Va., with the on-field workouts scheduled for Monday, March 30 at the Washington Commanders' practice facility, the BigBear.ai Performance Center at Commanders Park.

A dynamic presence in the Norfolk State backfield, Kevon King has emerged as one of the Spartans' top offensive playmakers. In 12 games, King rushed for 734 net yards on 91 carries, averaging an impressive 8.1 yards per attempt and 61.2 yards per game. He totaled four rushing touchdowns on the season, highlighted by a long run of 79 yards.

Among the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference leaders, King ranked fourth in both rushing yards per game (61.2) and total rushing yards (734), while placing third in yards per carry (8.1).

King is one of a select group of the nation's top draft-eligible HBCU prospects invited to the showcase, which provides a premier opportunity to perform in front of NFL scouts, coaches and personnel from all 32 teams. Of the 48 total prospects invited to the showcase, 11 athletes are from MEAC institutions.

Offensive participants, including King, will begin workouts at 8 a.m., followed by defensive and specialist groups later in the morning.

The showcase is designed to elevate the visibility of HBCU student-athletes in the pre-draft process, offering participants a professional evaluation setting similar to a traditional pro day. NFL clubs will be in attendance to evaluate talent through a series of drills, testing and position-specific workouts.

King's selection adds to Norfolk State's growing presence on the national stage, as he represents the Spartans among the top talent across HBCU football programs.
