GREENSBORO, N.C. --- The Norfolk State men's track and field team delivered strong results across two meets this weekend, highlighted by a runner-up finish in the 4x400-meter relay at the Aggie Invitational and a second-place finish in the 10,000 meters at the Virginia Challenge.
At the Aggie Invitational, the 4x400-meter relay team of Lavontay Bond, Donovan Terry, Julian Ward and Kendrick Winfield placed second with a time of 3:06.86. Winfield also led the Spartans on the track with a fourth-place finish in the 400 meters, clocking 46.63.
Christopher Basking paced Norfolk State in the 100 meters, finishing 11th in 10.47 during prelims. Antoinne Smith and Jaycob Linsey followed in 15th and 16th, respectively, each posting times of 10.57, while Ward finished 26th in 10.67.
Winfield added a ninth-place finish in the 200 meters with a time of 21.26. Basking took 17th in 21.44, followed by Ward (29th, 21.77), Terry (32nd, 21.80), Bond (34th, 21.83) and Smith (42nd, 21.96).
In the 400 meters, Bond placed 15th in 48.03, Terry finished 20th in 48.29 and Vincent Bond Jr. took 24th in 48.55.
Jemmel Green led the Spartans in the 800 meters, placing ninth with a time of 1:54.42, while Nimporembere Drogba finished 12th in 1:55.09.
In field events, Atrell Williams and Jayshaun Campbell finished 11th and 12th in the discus with throws of 41.74 meters and 41.63 meters, respectively.
Chancelor Watson and Kristopher Stephens tied for seventh in the high jump after each cleared 1.99 meters. Chazden Wilson placed 14th with a mark of 1.90 meters.
Landon Walker led Norfolk State in the pole vault, finishing seventh with a clearance of 4.57 meters. Christian White placed 14th with a mark of 3.82 meters.
At the Virginia Challenge, Daniel Mathenge delivered a standout performance with a second-place finish in the 10,000 meters, crossing the line in 30:11.11. Ian Kimutai followed with a fourth-place finish in 30:22.68.
Basil Koech placed 15th in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 10:04.06, while Lewis Too finished 42nd in the 1,500 meters, clocking 3:56.44.
Norfolk State will return to action at the Penn Relays, beginning on Thursday, Apr. 23 in Philadelphia, Pa.
