NORFOLK, Va. — Norfolk State softball junior Maddy Morris was named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Pitcher of the Week, as announced by the league office on Monday afternoon. The honor marks her second Pitcher of the Week selection this season, while she has also earned MEAC Player of the Week honors twice.
A native of Hampton, Va., Morris delivered a dominant weekend in the circle, leading the Spartans to a series win over Morgan State. She earned two complete-game victories, including a 6-1 win in the series opener and a 10-2 run-rule victory in game three.
In the opening game, Morris struck out six batters while allowing just one run on three hits. She followed with another strong outing in the series finale, striking out four while surrendering just one earned run on three hits to secure the series victory.
Norfolk State closes out the regular season next weekend on the road, traveling to Washington, D.C., for a three-game MEAC series against Howard. The teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday, April 25, followed by the series finale on Sunday, April 26.
