NORFOLK, Va. ---- The Norfolk State women's track and field team claimed two medals on the second day of the MEAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships at William "Dick" Price Stadium.
Morgan State currently leads the meet with 60 points, while Delaware State sits in second with 50 and hord sits in third with 233. The Spartans currently are fourth in the team standings with 128 points.
Essence Shaw earned Norfolk State's first gold medal of the meet, winning the heptathlon with 4,563 points.
Amira Dailey added a silver medal in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, clocking a time of 12:05.33.
Brooklyn Robinson became Norfolk State's first qualifier of the day for Saturday's finals, placing third in the women's 100-meter hurdles with a time of 13.38. She also qualified for the 100-meter final after winning her heat in 11.39.
Asiah Wike advanced to the final as well, placing eighth overall in 11.79.
Amanti Mayes placed fourth in the shot put with a mark of 11.78 meters. Robinson added points in the long jump, finishing sixth with a leap of 5.87 meters.
The MEAC Outdoor Championships conclude Saturday, beginning with the javelin throw at 10 a.m.
