Winfield to Receive Leigh Williams Memorial Award

NORFOLK, Va. – Kendrick Winfield will receive the Leigh Williams Memorial Award from the Norfolk Sports Club, announced by the organization.
 
The award recognizes Virginia's most outstanding collegiate athlete from the previous season. Winfield will accept the award at the Norfolk Sports Club's 79th Annual Jamboree on Thursday, June 18, at 6:30 p.m. in the Big Blue Room at Chartway Arena.
 
Winfield earned USTFCCCA All-America Second Team honors in the 200 meters at the NCAA Division I Indoor Championships. He won MEAC indoor titles in the 200 meters and 400 meters and helped Norfolk State capture the 4x400-meter relay title while breaking the school record in the 200 meters. He also won the 200 meters at the MEAC Outdoor Championships and qualified for the NCAA East Regional in the event and as part of the 4x400-meter relay team.
 
This season, Winfield captured the 200- and 400-meter titles at the MEAC Indoor Championships for the second consecutive year. He also won the 400 meters twice during the outdoor season entering next week's MEAC Outdoor Championships.
 
The event remains open to the public. Tickets cost $85 per person or $650 for a table of eight, including dinner. Guests must purchase tickets in advance through the Chartway Arena Box Office.
