WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The trio of
Hillary Cheruiyot (Eldoret, Kenya),
Jonathan Soimo (Kapsabet, Kenya) and
Dominic Luka (Marietta, N.Y.) each ran a season's best 5-mile time to lead the Norfolk State men's cross country team to a sixth-place finish at the Colonial Inter-Regional Challenge hosted by William & Mary on Saturday.
Cheruiyot (25:08.9) again was the Spartans' top runner Saturday, as he has been each of the team's previous two meets. He placed 18th overall. Soimo was right behind his teammate, running a personal-best 25:09.5. Luke placed 21st overall in 25:18.4
Georgetown won the men's title, finishing with 26 points. William & Mary was next with 37, followed by Virginia Tech (78), Richmond (128), Virginia (144) and NSU (175). VCU, UNC Greensboro, Longwood and Hampton rounded out the 10-team field.
On the women's side, sophomore
Tia Miles (Richmond, Va.) paced the Spartans by running 23:51.8 over 3.1 miles to finish in 50th place overall. The NSU women came in 10th place.
Both NSU teams are back in action next Saturday, Oct. 6, in the NSU Cross Country Invitational at Mt. Trashmore in Virginia Beach.
