NSU Blanks NCCU Women 7-0 for First Win of the Season

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — The Norfolk State women's tennis team picked up its first win of the season with a 7-0 win over North Carolina Central on Saturday at the Center Court Racquet Club.

NSU (1-3) won all three doubles matches, with Fiorella Valdivia (Lima, Peru) and Stepanka Velebova (Tachov, Czech Republic) winning 8-4, Lerissa Morris (Kingstown, SVG) and Jennifer Astbury (Chesapeake, Va.) winning 8-1, and Brittany Foster (Norfolk, Va.) and Ashlee Daugherty (Las Vegas, Nev.) posting an 8-0 win.

In the singles competition, Velebova (No. 4), Astbury (No. 5), and Daugherty (No. 6) won their matches in straight sets (6-0, 6-0).

The Spartans return to action on Sunday in their Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference opener against Florida A&M. The match will be played at the NSU Tennis Courts at noon.
