NSU Volleyball Falls 3-0 to N.C. State

RALEIGH, N.C. — The Norfolk State volleyball team fell 3-0 to N.C. State in the opening game of the Hilton/RTP N.C. State Classic on Friday afternoon at Reynolds Coliseum. The Wolfpack (3-6) won 25-17, 25-8, 25-18.

The Spartans (2-7) kept it relatively close for most of the first set. Junior Angie Clewis (Glen Heights, Tex.) tied the set at 17-all with a kill. But Alex Smith answered with a kill of her own and N.C. State shut down the Spartan offense to take the set.

The Wolfpack dominated the second set and held off the Spartans in the third for the win.

Arlee Tamietti led all players with 12 kills, while Kelly Wood had a match-high 14 digs for N.C. State. Smith hit .417 with 24 assists, six kills and six digs.

Clewis and Breanna Allums (Channelview, Tex.) had five kills each for NSU. Nicole Kessner (Blacksburg, Va.) had 11 assists.

The Spartans play UNC Asheville today at 5 p.m. and take on William & Mary at 10 a.m. on Saturday.
