NORFOLK, Va.. – Norfolk State freshman Sheila-Marie Smith (Virginia Beach, Va.) was named to the All-MEAC women's bowling second team, the conference announced on Wednesday.
Smith leads the Spartans (49-45, 14-10 MEAC) in total pins, with 8,281, and per-game average, at 188.2. Her high game of 280 at the Bowie State Invitational in January is the top game for a MEAC bowler this season.
Smith has also helped the Spartans finish the regular season in first place in the MEAC Southern Division, a first for the program. NSU opens play in the 2009 MEAC Bowling Championship this Friday in Greensboro, N.C.
Maria Rodriguez of defending national champion Maryland Eastern Shore was voted the MEAC Player of the Year. Kimberly Terrell-Kearney and Adriana Jamie of Delaware State were selected as the MEAC Coach and Rookie of the Year, respectively.
