NORFOLK, Va. – Norfolk State sophomore Sheila-Marie Smith (Virginia Beach, Va.) was named to the All-MEAC women's bowling second team, the conference announced on Wednesday. It is her second straight year being named to the all-conference second team.
Smith leads the Spartans (63-52, 14-10 MEAC) in total pins, with 9,115, and per-game average, at 178.7. She rolled a season-best game of 245 at the Maryland Eastern Shore Hawk Classic in November.
Smith has also helped the Spartans finish the regular season with a single-season school-record for wins (63) en route to a second-place finish in the MEAC Southern Division. NSU will participate in the 2010 MEAC Championship tournament this Friday through Sunday in Greensboro, N.C.
UMES swept the top conference honors. Maria Rodriguez was voted the MEAC Player of the Year, Sharon Brummell was tabbed Coach of the Year, and Anggie Ramirez was selected as Rookie of the Year.
