Spartans Picked 4th in MEAC Southern Division

Full MEAC Release

NORFOLK, Va.
– The Norfolk State tennis teams were each picked to finish fourth in the Southern Division in the MEAC preseason polls released Friday afternoon by the conference office.

The women's team received 143 points to finish just ahead of North Carolina A&T, which compiled 138 points. The men's team, meanwhile, had 147 points, five behind third-place Bethune-Cookman.

There are only four teams in the Southern Division in men's tennis. North Carolina A&T does not field a men's team.

The NSU women finished in fifth place in the Southern Division last year with a 0-4 MEAC record while posting a 3-12 overall mark. The men's team had a 0-3 MEAC record in 2010 and finished 3-14 overall.

South Carolina State garnered 18 of the 20 first place votes and finished with 242 points in the women's poll, while the Bulldogs also had 16 of 20 first place votes in the men's poll with a point total of 228.

The Howard women and Hampton men were picked atop the Northern Division in their respective sports.

With their seasons already underway, both NSU teams will return to the court Saturday at Howard.
