Marks Picks Up 2 Wins in 6-1 Loss to Kennesaw State

GREENVILLE, N.C.
– Senior Ben Marks picked up wins in both singles and doubles play for the Norfolk State men's tennis team in a 6-1 loss to Kennesaw State Saturday morning at East Carolina's Indoor Tennis Facility.

Marks teamed up with senior Arsenio Culver for the win at No. 1 doubles, 8-4, over the KSU duo of Louis Theodor and Alex Toliver. Marks then pulled out the comeback win over Toliver at No. 1 singles, 1-6, 6-1, 7-5.

The match marked the first of the season for the Owls, while NSU slipped to 0-4 on the season.

Culver nearly picked up the win against Simon Janik at No. 2 singles as well, as Janik won the first set, 6-0, before Culver earned the 6-3 win in the second set. Culver fell just short in the third set, though, 7-5.

In the other singles matches, freshman Daniel Grauel fell to Gokalp Ozdemir, 7-5, 6-3, at No. 5 singles, while senior Roosevelt Cooper dropped a 6-0, 7-6 decision to Alexander Pena at the sixth position. Pena won the second set tiebreaker, 10-5.

At No. 3 singles, Theodor downed freshman Igor Braga, 6-1, 6-4, and senior Christian Romanzini lost a 6-2, 6-2 decision to Gianni Kubin at the fourth position.

Grauel and freshman Shaheed Mourillon-Swift held strong against Kubin and Ozdemir at No. 3 doubles before falling, 8-6, and Braga and Romanzini succumbed to Janik and Michael Browder at the second doubles position, 8-2.

NSU will head to Old Dominion Wednesday for a match with the Monarchs at 1 p.m. at ODU's indoor tennis courts.
