Complete Wake Forest Invitational Results
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Norfolk State men's tennis team competed this weekend at the Wake Forest Invitational where they picked up a few wins.
Sophomore Daniel Grauel placed third in Flight D1 of the singles bracket where he defeated Wake Forest's Conner Sherwood, 6-4, 6-2, and Richmond's Will Welte, 2-6, 6-3, 6-1, before falling to Davidson's Kevin Moore, 6-3, 0-6, 7-6. Grauel defeated Sergio Mourelo of Liberty, 6-4, 4-6, 6-3.
Junior Kent Austin also competed in Flight D1 where he suffered a 6-4, 7-5 loss to Elon's Dan Sablik, and a loss to Longwood's Bharani Sankar, 6-0, 6-1, in the consolation bracket.
In Flight D2 junior Peter Rastromer-Pello finished fifth after he defeated East Tennessee State's Conner Knox, 7-6, 6-4, before suffering a 6-2, 6-2 loss to Richmond's Dylan Trent. He won his remaining matches against UNC Wilmington's Matt Kealy, 2-6, 6-3, 6-3, and Davidson's Ethan Kallick, 6-3, 6-4.
Freshman Samuel Lemberger fell to Justin Baker of Richmond, 6-3, 6-3 in Flight D2. He defeated Liberty's Josiah Boda, 6-2, 6-3, Ben Horst of Furman, 7-6, 5-7, 6-3, and Elon's Chris Geaslen, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4.
In Flight B freshman Dzmitry Zyhmantovich suffered a 6-2, 7-6 loss to Wake Forest's Sam Bloom before defeating Old Dominion's Zvonimir Podvinski, 6-0, 2-6, 7-6. Zyhmantovich fell to Egon Samali of Liberty, 6-3, 6-3, before winning the 11th place bracket against Liberty's Dillon Segur, 6-4, 6-2.
Grauel and Lemberger competed together in Flight C of the doubles bracket where they defeated Longwood's Dan Elston and Bharani Sankar, 9-7, but fell to Wesley Barrett and Dante Terenzio of Old Dominion, 8-1, and Davidson's Connor Evins and Ethan Kallick, 8-3.
Austin and Zyhmantovich also competed in Flight C where they loss to Liberty's Segur and Secanell, 9-8, before defeating East Tennessee State's Conner Knox and Fernando Amon, 8-5. They also defeated Will Welte and Justin Baker of Richmond, 8-5.
Braga and Pello lost to North Carolina's Nelson Vick and Conner Daly, 8-3 in Flight A. They defeated Longwood's Harry Kelleher and Edward Becker, 9-7, before losing to Old Dominion's Carlos Lopez and Albert Ochagavia, 8-4, and Liberty's Jorge Azuero and Siim Tuus, 8-6.
NSU will travel to Charlottesville, Va., on Oct. 18 to compete in the ITA Regional.
