NORFOLK, Va. – James Madison pulled off the 6-0 sweep of the Norfolk State women's tennis team Saturday afternoon in an NSU home match at ODU's Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center.
James Madison improved to 2-1 on the year, while the Spartans fell to 0-3 in their first home contest of the season. The Dukes won both doubles matches and the third by default, while also winning all five singles matches. The No. 6 singles position was not contested.
At the top spot in doubles play, senior

Laura Gutierrez fell to the JMU duo of Michelle Nguyen and Taylor Pinchoff, 8-3. At No. 2 doubles, junior

Kia Batiste got swept by Ruxandra Andriescu and Katherine Bulling of JMU, 8-0.
JMU also won the third doubles spot by default because of NSU's five-player lineup.
The Dukes also swept the Spartans at the No. 1 and No. 2 singles positions, with Jacqueline Palmucci downing Gutierrez at the top singles spot, 6-0, 6-0. Nguyen did the same to Brooks at the second singles position as well.
In the other matches, Graff fell to Megan Douglass by a 6-2, 6-2 score at No. 3 doubles, while Batiste fell to Bulling at the fourth singles spot, 6-0, 6-1. Sophomore
Maryna Kariuk got upended by Andriescu at the fifth position, 6-0, 6-2.
NSU will face its first conference opponent of the season next Friday at North Carolina A&T at 6 p.m.
