Spartans Now 12th in NTCA Media Poll

NTCA Media Top 20 Poll

NORFOLK, Va.
– The Norfolk State bowling team moved up to 12th in the latest National Tenpin Coaches Association (NTCA) media top-20 poll released this week, up two spots from 14th in last month's inaugural poll.

NSU garnered 124 points to finish ahead of No. 13 Kutztown and No. 14 Delaware State but behind No. 11 New Jersey City. The media poll is voted on by sports information directors and various media members. The Spartans are currently ranked 11th in the latest NTCA coaches poll released last week as well.

NSU owns a 78-34 overall record, shattering their previous school record for wins in a season that had stood at 67. The Spartans also carry a 16-4 mark in conference play, four games ahead of second-place Bethune-Cookman and Florida A&M in the MEAC Southern Division standings. The team will aim for its third division title in four years at the last Southern Divisional March 3-4 in Daytona Beach, Fla.

Fairleigh Dickinson received 15 first-place votes and finished with 448 points and the No. 1 ranking. Valparaiso finished second with 382 points and the other first-place vote, followed by Sacred Heart, Arkansas State and UMES rounding out the top 5. Along with NSU, UMES and Delaware State were the only other MEAC schools either in the top 20 or receiving votes in the media poll.

NSU will complete the MEAC regular season March 3-4 at the MEAC Southern Divisional, followed by the USBC Intercollegiate Team Sectionals March 10-11 at a yet-to-be-determined location.
