Box Score NORFOLK, Va. – Five players had at least five kills on the night to lead Texas-Pan American to a 3-0 victory over the Norfolk State volleyball team Friday during the first day of the Spartan Invitational at Joseph Echols Hall.
The Broncs hit .289 for the match to sweep the Spartans, 25-21, 25-23, 25-16, and improve to 4-10 on the year. NSU dropped to 2-13 overall.
Senior
Charlotte Armstead led all players with nine kills and hit .316, while junior
Goda Jankauskaite added seven kills. On the other side, Michelle McNamee posted eight kills for the Broncs, while Diara Reynolds and Maria Kliefoth each tallied seven.
McNamee had three kills early on in the match to boost the Broncs to a 10-4 lead to start the first set. Junior

Beatriz Ferreira each added a pair of kills as NSU crept back to within three, 15-12. The Spartans, though, could not string together a run of three or more points, and Reynolds finished off the set, 25-21.
The Broncs jumped out to a 6-1 lead to start the second set, but Ferreira added a pair of service aces during a 6-1 run for the Spartans to tie it up. The Broncs pushed the lead up to four, 16-12, but an 8-1 run, sparked by several Texas-Pan American errors, gave the Spartans a 20-17 advantage. The Broncs, though, countered with a 6-1 run to take the lead back for good.
Texas-Pan American scored nine of the first 13 points of the third set and eventually stretched the lead to eight, 18-10. The Spartans hit just .031 in that third stanza.
Redshirt sophomore
Noelle Eagles had a team-high 11 digs for NSU, while freshman
Darcy Moore posted 28 assists.
Haley Durham and Nycole Masaki had six and five kills, respectively, for Texas-Pan American, while Juri Franzen led all players with 14 digs. Masaki also handed out 33 assists on the night.
NSU will host Hampton and South Carolina State tomorrow on Day 2 of the tournament. Because of the threat of power outages in the morning due to construction work, the matches have been moved back an hour. NSU will now play at 2 p.m. against South Carolina State and 8 p.m. against Hampton.
Texas-Pan American and Hampton will start at 11 a.m., and South Carolina State and Texas-Pan American will now play at 5 p.m.
