NSU Women Finish 4th at MEAC Championship

Complete 2013 MEAC Women's Cross Country Results

PRINCESS ANNE, Md. – The Norfolk State women's cross country team had a trio of runners earn All-MEAC honors as the Spartans took fourth place at the MEAC Championship on Saturday morning. The 5K race was held at the UMES Cross Country Course.

Earning All-MEAC honors were sophomores Adugna Desalegn, Rachel Webb and Faith Summey. Desalegn led all NSU runners with a time of 18:45.10 to finish sixth. Webb placed seventh with her time of 18:45.30 and Summey was 12th in a time of 18:47.90.

Junior Kassandra Irizarry was 27th, finishing with a time of 20:00.50. Sophomore Purity Mitei ran a time of 20:06.80 to finish 32nd. Closing things out for NSU was sophomore Ra'Shaun Combs, who was 41st with a time of 20:45.30.

NSU finished with 84 points. Rounding out the top three was Florida A&M, who won the women's title for the second time in a row with 52 points, Morgan State was second with 57 points and Hampton was third with 73 points.

The Spartans will travel to Earlysville, Va., on Nov. 15 to compete at the NCAA Southeast Regional hosted by the University of Virginia.
