Masai Leads NSU Women to 3rd Place at George Mason Invitational

LEESBURG, Va. – Junior Fiona Masai finished second overall to help the Norfolk State women's cross country team place third at the George Mason Invitational on Saturday morning.

NSU finished with 60 points. George Mason claimed the team title with 20 points followed by UNC-Wilmington, who finished with 50 points. The District of Columbia tallied 108 points to finish fourth.

Masai finished the 6K race with a time of 24:18.60. Sophomore Faith Summey also finished in the top ten, placing ninth overall with a time of 25:11.20.

Sophomores Rachel Webb (26:02.30), Purity Mitei (26:27.90) and Ra'Shaun Combs (30:19.90) finished 18th, 21st and 27th. Junior Kassandra Irizarry (30:38.40) closed things out for the Spartans, placing 28th overall.

The Spartans will compete at the Christopher Newport Invitational on Oct. 19 in Yorktown, Va.
