Florida A&M Downs NSU, 6-1

FLORENCE, S.C. –Florida A&M claimed a 6-1 win over the Norfolk State men's tennis team to give the Spartans their first conference loss of the season on Monday afternoon.

NSU is 3-1 in the MEAC and 5-6 overall while FAMU improved to 1-0 in the league and 4-8 on the season.

Freshman Robin Riethmueller claimed the Spartans' lone win as he defeated Zack Evenden, 7-5, 6-4, in the No. 3 singles spot.

In the doubles matches, junior Peter Ramstromer-Pello and freshman Dzmitry Zyhmantovich led off with a 2-8 loss to Salif Kante and Takura Happy. At the No. 2 spot, Riethmueller and sophomore Igor Braga were down 5-6 to Evenden and Temuera Asafu-Adjaye before the match was abandoned. Chidi Gabriel and Admire Mushonga defeated freshman Samuel Lemberger and sophomore Daniel Grauel.

Zyhmantovich competed in the No. 1 singles position, where he fell to Kante, 7-5, 6-4. In the No. 2 spot, Gabriel upended Braga, 6-0, 6-0. Ramstromer-Pello suffered a 6-2, 2-6, 1-0(4) loss to Mushonga in the No. 4 singles match. Lemberger competed at the No. 5 slot and was defeated by Happy, 6-2, 6-4. In the No. 6 spot, Asafu-Ajaye posted a 3-6, 7-5, 1-0(6) win over Grauel.

NSU takes on Benedict on Tuesday at 1 p.m., in Florence, S.C.
