Meet Results

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.
– Led by a second straight win in the 4x100 relay, Spartan sprinters enjoyed several season-best performances on Saturday for the NSU women's track and field team at the Virginia Invitational hosted by U.Va.

A week after winning the 4x100 relay at William & Mary, the Spartans repeated the feat at U.Va. NSU made one slight change to its quartet over the previous week, with first-year sophomore Brittney McCants joining mainstays Qua'Nesha Wallace, Champagne Bell and Torie Cunningham. The group posted a season-best time of 45.92 seconds to take the win.

Wallace, McCants and Bell also clocked season-best times in their respective individual events. Bell ran a time of 55.04 seconds to take third place in the 400 meters. Wallace was fourth in the 100 meters in 11.93 seconds, and McCants placed fourth in the 200 meters in 24.74 seconds.

In the middle distance events, freshman Rachel Webb also had a solid performance. Webb was ninth in the 1,500 meters in a time of 4 minutes, 45.80 seconds, some seven seconds faster than her time last weekend at W&M.

Freshman Jazmine Vaughan rounded out the Spartans' efforts on the track with a fifth-place finish in the 100 meter hurdles (14.75 seconds).

In the field events, freshman Kiara Howell kept the season-best theme going by recording a pair of her own in the throws. Howell placed fourth in the shot put with a top throw of 47 feet, 3.75 inches. She also placed fifth in the discus with a top heave of 150-11.

Sophomore Kaydianne McKenzie also had a pair of top-five finishes in field events. McKenzie was fourth in the triple jump (season-best 37-8.75) and fifth in the long jump (16-11.5).

The Spartans travel to Gainesville next weekend to participate in the Pepsi Florida Relays.
