Meet Results
NORFOLK, Va. – The young crop of Norfolk State's women sprinters continued to impress on Saturday on its home track, securing a number of personal-bests and winning the 4x100 relay at the NSU Relays.
The Spartans took second through fifth in the 100 meters, with all four finishers cracking the 12.00 mark. NSU also won the 4x100 relay and lowered its season-best time for the fifth meet in a row.
In the open 100, sophomore
Torie Cunningham PRed with her time of 11.50 seconds, which was good for second place. Sophomore
Brittney McCants was right behind in 11.51, also a PR. Sophomore
Qua'Nesha Wallace placed fourth in 11.70 and classmate
Rayiana Johnson capped off the four PR performances in the 100 with a fifth-place finish and a time of 11.80.

Champagne Bell was also victorious in the 4x100 relay, clocking a season-best time of 45.30 seconds. That shaved .21 off the team's previous best, set last week at the Florida Relays.
That was just the start of Bell's impressive day. She also won the long jump with a top leap of 20 feet, 4.5 inches. It was the second-best jump of her collegiate career, trailing only her 20-5.25 that captured the gold medal at last year's MEAC Outdoor Championship. Bell would rank in the top 10 in the NCAA East Preliminary rankings with her mark based on the standings entering this weekend's competition around the country.
Spartan women also won five other field events. Freshman
Kiara Howell had three of those, sweeping the shot put (39-6), discus (144-9) and javelin (103-1) throws. Sophomore
Kaydianne McKenzie won the triple jump (36-11.5) and classmate
Tiara Davis PRed in winning the pole vault (10-9).
Other winners on the track included
Ra'Shaun Combs in the 1,500m (4:49.50),
Vamonie Boddie in the 400m hurdles (1:02.90), Cunningham in the 200 (24.60) and the 4x400 team of Bell, Cunningham, McKenzie and
Ashley Sessoms (3:59.50).
The Spartans are back on the track next weekend when they participate in the Morgan State Legacy Meet in Baltimore, Md.
