Zyhmantovich Named MEAC Rookie of the Year, Feldman Picked as Coach of the Year

NORFOLK, Va.Dzmitry Zyhmantovich was named the MEAC Rookie of the Year, while Norfolk State's head tennis coach Nate Feldman was selected as the Coach of the Year as voted by the conference's head tennis coaches and sports information directors, the league announced Thursday.

Igor Braga won the MEAC Rookie of the Year award last season. This was first time in school history that the NSU tennis coach was named MEAC coach of the year.

Zyhmantovich, along with freshman Robin Riethmueller, earned a spot on the All-MEAC first team.

A native of Minsk, Belarus, Zyhmantovich closed out the regular season with a 13-5 overall singles record, including 9-4 at No. 1 and 4-1 at No. 2. He finished with a 3-1 conference record in singles play. In doubles competition, Zyhmantovich paired with teammate Peter Ramstromer-Pello, and they were 6-7 at No. 1 and 2-0 at No.2. Zyhmantovich was also named MEAC Rookie of the Week four times this season.

Feldman led the men's program to a 12-8 regular season record, including a 3-1 mark in conference play.  NSU, Florida A&M and South Carolina State finished in a three-way tie for first place in the MEAC South after regular-season play was complete, marking the first time the Spartans have earned a share of a MEAC regular-season divisional title.

Riethmueller (Balingen, Germany) finished the regular season with a 14-4 overall record in singles play. He was 3-3 at the No. 2 position and 11-1 at the No. 3 spot. Riethmueller also went undefeated in MEAC play with a 3-0 singles mark. He teamed up with Braga in doubles play, where they went 9-8 overall, including 2-1 at No. 1, 6-7 at No. 2, and 1-0 at No. 3. Riethmueller also paired with sophomore Daniel Grauel. They were 1-0 at No. 2 and 0-1 at No. 3. Like Zyhmantovich, Riethmueller also earned MEAC Rookie of the Week honors four times this season.

NSU earned the southern division's No. 3 seed in the 2013 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference championships that will take place Friday through Sunday at the Millbrook Tennis Center in Raleigh, N.C. The Spartans will face Hampton, the northern division's No. 2 seed, in the quarterfinals on Friday.
