BALTIMORE, Md. – Kiara Howell took top-three finishes in both the shot put and discus throws to highlight the NSU women's track team's performance at the Morgan State Legacy Meet on Saturday.
Howell placed second in the discus with a top throw of 145 feet, 11 inches. She was third in the shot put in 45-2.25.
Several other Spartans also fared well, just missing out on personal-best performances. In other field events, sophomore Kaydianne McKenzie fell less than one inch shy of her PR in the triple jump. She finished in sixth place with a top jump of 38-10.25. In addition, classmate Tiara Davis was eighth in the pole vault with a top clearance of 10-4.25.
One week after setting a new PR in the 100 meters, Torie Cunningham ran well Saturday in the 200m. She was sixth in a time of 24.34 seconds, just .02 off her PR.
In other races, sophomore Kassandra Irizarry was third in the 3,000m steeplechase in 12:14.26 and Jazmine Vaughan placed fifth in the 100 meter hurdles in 14.86 seconds. She clocked a 14.61 in the prelims.
The NSU 4x100 relay team of Cunningham, Qua'Nesha Wallace, Champagne Bell and Brittney McCants placed third in a time of 46.15 seconds.
The Spartans are back in action this weekend at the Penn Relays in Philadelphia, Pa.
