Women’s Cross Country Opens Season With Second-Place Finish at Lid-Lifter Invitational

PRINCESS ANNE, Md.
- The Norfolk State University women's cross country team opened the season Saturday morning with a second place finish at the UMES Lid-Lifter Invitational in Princess Anne, Md.

NSU finished with 31 points, behind only Morgan State (28). Maryland Eastern Shore (87) and Delaware State (96) rounded out the team standings.

The Spartans had three runners finish in the top-five as sophomore Faith Summey led all NSU runners finishing third with a time of 19:25.82. Sophomore Rachel Webb and junior Fiona Masai placed fourth and fifth, running 19:30.33 and 19:40.10, respectively.

Junior Kassandra Irizarry and sophomore Purity Mitei rounded out the top 10, placing ninth and 10th with times of 20:29.21 and 20:37.57, while sophomore Ra'Shaun Combs closed things out for NSU with a time of 22:03.53 to finish 16th.

Up next for the Spartans will be the UMES Cappy Anderson Invitational on Sept. 21 in Princess Anne, Md.
