ROCK HILL, S.C. – Senior
Daniel Grauel earned Norfolk State's only victory of the weekend during the Winthrop Invitational from Friday through Sunday at Memorial Courts. He and his two teammates wrapped up their fall tennis season at the tournament.
In the Flight C singles bracket, Grauel dropped his opening match before rebounding with a victory over Will Baird of Presbyterian, 7-5, 6-1, on Sunday. In that first matchup on Friday, Grauel gave Henry Paiste of UAB a run for his money to start the tournament. He defeated Paiste in the first set, 7-5, before Paiste came away with wins in the next two sets, 6-2 and 7-5.
Senior
Igor Braga competed in the Flight A singles bracket, coming up empty twice on Friday. Sebastian Sikh of North Carolina Wesleyan won 7-5, 6-4, and then Alexander Lykou of Presbyterian earned a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Braga later in the day.
On Sunday, Braga won the first set over UAB's Matthew Hill, 6-2, but Hill responded with a 6-4 win in the second and a tiebreaker victory in the third set for the match win.
Braga and senior teammate
Pascal Domnik took part in the Flight A doubles bracket. They competed in just one match there, an 8-5 loss to Joel Roberts and Ryan Miller of Presbyterian.
Rain on Saturday pushed everything back and prevented the players from finishing out the tournament.
