NORFOLK, Va. - The Norfolk State men's basketball team will wrap up a four-game road swing that has had the Spartans away from home for three straight weekends. NSU will be looking for a measure of revenge after Morgan State won the previous meeting to break NSU's 23-game conference win streak. The winner will have sole possession of second place and possibly a tie for first in the MEAC depending on other results.
Series History
Morgan State's win in January at Joseph Echols Hall broke NSU's six-game win streak against the Bears. The Spartans, who have won the last three meetings in Baltimore, still lead the all-time series with the Bears, 32-12.
About Morgan State
The Bears downed Hampton at home in two overtimes last Monday in front of an ESPNU audience, 94-92. The two teams combined for 107 free throw attempts and 79 fouls. Justin Black had 26 points, and he currently leads MSU with 18.8 points per game to go along with 5.1 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 2.2 steals. Ian Chiles adds 14.8 points and 2.7 blocks, while Anthony Hubbard contributes 11.3 points and 7.0 rebounds for an offense that scores 71.5 a game. The Bears do force 15.6 turnovers per game with a +3.7 turnover margin. Despite shooting almost 42 percent from the field, MSU sinks just 27.6 percent from beyond the arc and 58.9 percent from the free throw line.
Last Time Out
Miami held NSU to its lowest scoring output of the year in a 64-49 victory over the Spartans on Feb. 1 in Miami.
Pendarvis Williams scored 21 points, while
Brandon Goode added 14 points and seven rebounds. The rest of the team, though, shot just 4-of-27 from the field. NSU hit just 18-of-56 (32.1 percent) for the game. Rion Brown led Miami with 15 points, while three other players also scored in double figures. Garrius Adams added 12 points and 10 rebounds, helping the Hurricanes finish with a 39-29 edge on the glass.
