ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The No. 18 Norfolk State bowling team ended the weekend in 10th place at the United States Bowling Congress (USBC) Intercollegiate Team Sectional at the AMF Parkway Lanes.
The teams bowled an intense competition of 64 Baker games over the two-day sectional, and NSU actually got off to a strong start. They sat in fifth place out of 15 teams a quarter of the way through the tournament.
NSU dropped to eighth following the conclusion of Saturday's action and stayed in that same spot after 48 games were in the books. Included in Sunday's early round was a 278 in the third game of the day, part of a stretch in which NSU topped 200 in five of six games.
The Spartans finished the tournament later in the day on Sunday in 10th place with a total pinfall of 11,885.
NSU competed in one of four sectionals held this weekend, and the top four teams from each sectional advanced to the USBC XBowling Intercollegiate Team Championship in mid-April. The Spartans were one of five NCAA programs to compete at the Allentown sectional.
The other three sectionals were held in Fort Worth, Texas; Addison, Ill.; and Smyrna, Tenn.
NSU will compete for a conference title next weekend at the MEAC Championship at the AMF Lanes in Chesapeake, Va. Action begins on Friday at 9:15 a.m.
