Aspiras Named to MEAC All-Tournament Team

NORFOLK, Va. – Senior Norfolk State bowler Thea Aspiras earned a spot on the MEAC All-Tournament Team on Sunday as the 2014 MEAC Championship came to a close.

She was one of five players to earn all-tournament honors, along with Mariana Alvarado and Megan Buja of UMES, Emily Strombeck of North Carolina A&T and Florida A&M's Katherine Jones.

A native of Chesapeake, Va., Aspiras finished second on Friday during the qualifying rounds of the tournament with a 204.8 average. The Spartans, seeded fourth going into Saturday's bracket play, won their opening match against Bethune-Cookman before falling to UMES and Delaware State.

Florida A&M topped UMES 4-3 before the Hawks rebounded to defeat the Rattlers 4-3 in the if-necessary match of the championship round to earn the conference title.

The No. 19 Spartans ended the year 58-44.
