Spartans Claim 5-2 Win Against Florida A&M

FLORENCE, S.C. – The Norfolk State men's tennis teams claimed a 5-2 win against Florida A&M in the MEAC Southern Division Roundup on Sunday afternoon.

The Spartans improved to 4-4 on the season and 2-1 in conference play. FAMU fell to 3-6 overall and 0-1 in the MEAC.

NSU went 2-1 in the doubles competition. Peter Ramstromer-Pello and Dzmitry Zyhmantovich paired up to defeat Rodney Carey, Jr. and Admire Mushonga, 8-2. Robin Riethmueller and Igor Braga competed at the No. 2 spot, where they suffered an 8-6 loss to Carlos Waitman and Zack Evenden. Samuel Lemberger and Daniel Grauel posted an 8-3 win over Courage Okungbowa and Robert Ortiz.

Zyhmantovich led off in singles play with a 7-5, 7-5 win over Carey, Jr. At the No. 2 spot, Riethmueller defeated Evenden, 5-7, 6-4, 6-2. Ramstromer-Pello competed in the No. 4 position, where he claimed a 6-1, 6-2 victory against Ortiz. Grauel picked up NSU's last win in the No. 6 spot. He defeated Okungbowa, 6-2, 1-6, 6-2. The Spartans suffered two losses in singles play. Mushonga posted a 6-2, 6-3 win against Braga, while Waitman defeated Lemberger, 6-1, 6-2.

The Spartans take on Bethune-Cookman on March 10 in the MEAC Southern Division Roundup. The match is scheduled to start at 10 a.m. in Florence, S.C.
