Box Score HARRISONBURG, Va. – James Madison wrapped up the JMU Invitational with a solid victory over the Norfolk State volleyball team on Saturday evening, 3-0, at Sinclair Gymnasium.
The Dukes won the first two sets by scores of 25-19 and 25-16 before overwhelming the Spartans in the third set, 25-4.
JMU (10-3) hit .375 for the match and committed just nine attack errors. The trio of Janey Goodman (12 kills, .286 attack percentage, four blocks), Bryn Recker (10 kills, .500 attack percentage) and Meghan Niski (nine kills, .600 attack percentage) did most of the damage. They combined for 31 of the team's 39 kills on the evening.
The Spartans hit nearly .200 during the first two sets but just .073 for the match after struggling in the third set. Sophomore
Clarke Tyler led NSU (1-12) with seven kills, while senior
Darcy Moore tallied a double-double of 17 assists and 10 digs.
NSU held the lead in the early part of the first set. Five different players had kills for the Spartans, and Tyler had a solo block for a 13-9 lead. From there, though, JMU won eight straight and 12 of the next 14 points to pull away.

Angie Darcus and an error on the Dukes cut the deficit to 13-11, but they pushed the lead to as much as nine in taking the second stanza.
James Madison won the first six points of the third set and also won 14 straight during its dominating finish. The Dukes also outscored the Spartans in service aces, 11-1, and blocks, 8-3, on the night.
NSU will begin MEAC play next weekend at home, beginning with Coppin State at 6 p.m. on Friday at Joseph Echols Hall.
