Box Score BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Sacramento State cruised through the first set and did not look back in a 3-0 win over the Norfolk State volleyball team on Friday afternoon in the Campbell Invitational.
The Hornets won that first set by a 25-11 score at Gore Arena before taking the next two by scores of 25-14 and 25-23. No player had more than six kills for Sacramento State (4-1), which hit .241 and used 16 different players throughout the match.
The Spartans (0-4) were led by senior
Angie Darcus, who tallied team-leading totals of nine kills and 12 digs.
The Hornets won 12 of the first 13 points of the match in cruising to a first-set win. Darcus had three kills later in the set during a 6-1 stretch for NSU before Sacramento State finished things off.
It was much the same in the second set, as the Hornets jumped ahead 5-1 and then later held a 12-6 lead to force an NSU timeout. They led by as much as 12 before the final 11-point margin.

Sydney Dailey each had kills to eventually force a Sacramento State timeout with the score 15-13. Kills from senior setter
Darcy Moore helped get NSU to within one, and then Darcus added two service aces during a 5-0 spurt.
Leading 23-20 at that point, the Spartans then committed five straight errors to give the Hornets the third and final set.
Forsythe had six kills and eight digs. Sacramento State held advantages in blocks (10-1) and service aces (10-4).
The Spartans will face Campbell at 12:30 and UNC Wilmington at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday during the second day of the tournament.
