Milton Makes it a 3-Peat, Wins Another MEAC High Jump Title

| By:
LANDOVER, Md. – Jacob Milton kept his MEAC high jump streak alive on Friday, winning his third straight indoor gold medal in his signature event to highlight day two for the Spartan men at the MEAC Indoor Track & Field Championships at the Prince George's Sports & Learning Complex.

Entering final day of competition on Saturday, the Spartans are third in the team standings with 48 points, trailing Bethune-Cookman (66) and North Carolina A&T (51).

Milton cleared 6 feet, 10.75 inches to win his fifth MEAC high jump title in all. Counting indoor and outdoor championships, Milton has won all five conference high jump competitions in his career.

Milton passed the first five heights, then sailed over the bar at 6-9.5 and 6-10.75 on his first attempt at each. With no other competitors left at that point, Milton made three good attempts at 7-3.25, which would have surpassed former Spartan Marlon Woods' meet record of 7-2.5 from 2008, but fell just short.

Milton's teammate, Kequan Henley, placed eighth in the high jump with a top clearance of 6-7 to earn NSU another point in the team standings.

The distance medley relay team of Lelei Too, Justin Pinder, Kamil Jihad and Meshack Kipchirchir capped the day by securing a bronze medal. The quartet finished in 10 minutes, 14.93 seconds.

Earlier in the day, junior Jaylen Banks earned a silver medal in the men's heptathlon, scoring 4,490 points in the event.

NSU also fared well in Friday's track preliminaries. Banks advanced to the finals in the 60m hurdles with a prelim time of 8.38 seconds. Keith Brown (6.87 in the 60m) and Trequan Barnes (48.08 in the 400m) also advanced through to event finals on Saturday with strong performances.

Saturday's events begin at 9:30 a.m. FloTrack will broadcast the final day of action beginning at noon.
