North Carolina A&T repeated as MEAC men's indoor champion with 191 points. Bethune-Cookman was second with 141 and the Spartans were third with 119.

The Spartans posted 11 top-five finishes including a pair of runner-up finishes on Saturday. Sophomore Patrick Booker won the silver medal in the pole vault with a top height of 12 feet, 11.5 inches. Sophomore Lelei Too ran a season-best time of 8:40.05 to place second in the 3,000 meters.

To cap the meet, the 4x400 team of Trequan Barnes, Justin Pinder, Kamil Jihad and Keith Brown placed third in a time of 3:17.90.

Earlier in the day, Brown picked up his first career MEAC individual medal, posting a personal-best time of 6.77 seconds to finish third in the 60-meter dash. Just .05 seconds separated winner Rodney Rowe (6.72) from Brown in third.

Including relays, Barnes, Brown, Too, Jihad, Meshack Kipchirchir, Evans Cheruiyot and Jaylen Banks all scored points in multiple events Saturday. Barnes won the bronze medal in the 400 meters with a time of 47.33 seconds and also was fifth in the 200 in 21.75 seconds.

In the mile, Too placed fourth (4:23.96), Cheruiyot fifth (4:27.08) and Kipchirchir seventh (4:29.30). The same trio took second through fourth places in the 3,000, with Kipchirchir (8:40.39) third behind Too and Cheruiyot placing fourth (8:45.12).

Jihad notched a fourth-place finish in the 800 (1:55.02).

The Spartans also got points from Banks' sixth-place finish in the triple jump and a seventh-place showing in the 60-meter hurdles. Banks' top leap went 45 feet, 0.25 inches and he registered a time of 8.37 in the 60 hurdles. Banks scored points in three events this week, as he also was runner-up in the heptathlon.

The Spartans will wait for word on whether any of their athletes receive berths in the NCAA Indoor Championships March 8-9 in Birmingham, Alabama. Outdoor season gets underway March 28-30 at the Florida Relays.
