Spartans Pick Up 3 Wins to Close out Season

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Norfolk State bowling team went 3-5 over the weekend as the Spartans wrapped up their 2020-21 season at the Stallings Invitational at Triad Lanes.
 
NSU went 1-3 on the first day of the tournament on Saturday during Baker play before winning two of its four matches on Sunday during the traditional round. Host North Carolina A&T, ranked fourth in the country, won all eight of its matches over the weekend to lead all teams.
 
Sophomore Chanel Staton averaged 176.0 in five games on Sunday in traditional play, including a bye to start the day, to pace the Spartans. Sophomore Crystal Brewer and senior McKayla Lang each averaged 173.8.
 
Sophomore Megan Wheat (167.2) and junior Trinity Gray (165.6) rounded out the Spartan lineup over the weekend.
 
They helped NSU earn wins over Tusculum, 854-813, and Belmont Abbey, 785-719, on Sunday in the traditional round. The Spartans fell to Lincoln Memorial to start the day, 959-816, as well as to A&T by a 937-892 score to close out the tournament.
 
Tusculum also succumbed to the Spartans on Saturday in Baker action, 863-813. But the host Aggies (1,056-808), Belmont Abbey (772-744), and Lincoln Memorial (923-855) all earned victories over Norfolk State that opening day.
 
NSU finished its COVID-19 shortened season with a 4-12 record.
