Karagoz, Stejskalova Earn Spots on MEAC 50th Anniversary Team

| By:
NORFOLK, Va. – The Norfolk State women's tennis duo of Naz Karagoz and Barbora Stejskalova were voted to the MEAC All-Time Women's Tennis Team, announced by the conference this week in celebration of its 50th anniversary.

The MEAC is honoring the top 50 players from each sport with its 50th anniversary teams. The Spartans finished with a pair of individuals as voted on by a variety of fans and individuals.

Karagoz played just one season with the Spartans as a grad transfer from Tulane, but it was a season not to forget. She was named the 2019 MEAC Player of the Year, a first for the NSU women's tennis program. The Istanbul, Turkey native went 9-1 overall in singles that year, including a perfect 5-0 mark in conference play. The first-team All-MEAC performer also went 7-3 in doubles, 4-1 in the MEAC. The Spartans posted a 4-1 record in the MEAC Northern Division and were awarded the division title in Karagoz' lone season at NSU.

Stejskalova was one of the first great players in Norfolk State's Division I history. She was a three-time first-team All-MEAC honoree from 2001-03. She is the only player in program history to earn first-team honors at least twice. The Brno, Czech Republic native led NSU to a MEAC Tournament runner-up finish her junior year in 2002. The Spartans went 9-1 in the MEAC in her senior year in 2003, finishing second in the regular season standings.

The MEAC is using online fan voting to select its all-time teams in every sport in conjunction with the ongoing celebration of its 50th year of operation. More than 200 votes were cast for the women's tennis all-time team, with fans, media representatives, institution sports information contacts and others taking part.

To be considered on the ballot, players must have been named one of the following: First Team All-MEAC, MEAC Player of the Year, MEAC Rookie of the Year or MEAC Championship Outstanding Performer.
