NORFOLK, Va. – Leslie Young and
Tynniesia Wilson both earned silver medals in their respective field events to highlight the first day of competition for the NSU women's track and field team on Thursday at Dick Price Stadium.
After three events scored, the Spartans are second in the team standings with 22 points. Morgan State is in first with 26.
Young notched a personal-best throw of 137 feet, 4 inches to take second in the discus. She set a PR for the second straight meet following her previous best throw at the U.Va. Grand Prix.
Wilson cleared 5 feet, 4.25 inches to place second in the high jump. She cleared the same height as Miazziah Rose of Morgan State, but Rose won based on fewer misses.
Also on Thursday,
Fridah Koech earned third in the 10,000 meters in 40 minutes, 41.72 seconds, and
Malika Pride finished fifth in the 200-meter prelims to qualify for Saturday's event final. In the heptathlon,
Dahja Price stands in fourth place,
Jada Venters is fifth and
Shonte Seale is eighth after four events.
Friday's second day of competition starts at 9 a.m. with the conclusion of the women's heptathlon.
