Three Spartans Earn Medals on Second Day of MEAC Outdoor Championships

NORFOLK, Va. – Distance runner Mercyline Kimaiyo won the 3,000 meter steeplechase by a comfortable margin to lead the Norfolk State women's track team on the second day of the 2023 MEAC Outdoor Championships at William "Dick" Price Stadium.
 
The sophomore finished the race in 11 minutes, 8.22 seconds, contributing 10 points to the Spartans' total. After two days of competition, Norfolk State sits in third place of the women's standings with 48.50 points.
 
Norfolk State also shined in the throwing department on Wednesday afternoon, earning two separate spots on the podium.
 
Leslie Young took third in the shot put, with a toss of 42 feet, 4.25. She also added extra points for the Spartans with a sixth-place finish in the hammer throw (152-9).
 
Arieana Parker recorded a hammer throw of 160 feet, 4 inches to take third place in the event.
 
The Spartans set themselves up well for Thursday's competition, as multiple athletes posted strong performances in their respective preliminary heats on the track.
 
Brooklyn Robinson clocked a personal record in the 100 meter hurdles, finishing the event in 13.99 seconds. The mark punched her ticket into Thursday's final.
 
Armani Harris used a determined final stretch to chase down the competition in the 400 meter dash, clocking a personal record of 56.05 to qualify for the event's final.
