MOUNT JOY, Pa. - The Norfolk State women's bowling team competed in The Mount Shootout hosted by Mount St. Mary University at the Clearview Lanes in Mount Joy, Pa. from Feb. 9-11.
The Tournament consisted of 16 teams from across nine different states on the east coast. The Spartans competed in Baker Total Pinfall, Traditional, and Baker Match Play formats.
On day one of the tournament, the Spartans played in Baker Total Pinfall format. They fell to St. Francis (1,058-792), Kutztown (887-887), Niagara (1,077-848), Fairleigh Dickinson (1,043-920), and Alvernia (884-859).
Against Alvernia, the Spartans were within one pin after four games, behind a dominant game two (201-131) and game four (193-181), but the Spartans unfortunately fell to the Wolves in game five.
On day two of the tournament, the Spartans played in the Traditional format. The Spartans won two of the five games that day defeating Dominican (906-710) and MEAC foe Howard (984-877).
The Spartans fell to Bryant (953-995), New Jersey City (834-923), and Mercyhurst (877-932).
Day three of the tournament was in Baker Match Play format, which saw the Spartans sweep all three of their opponents: New Jersey City (3-2), Howard (4-2), and Chestnut Hill (5-1).
In the individual standings, LaShauna Burrus led all Spartans placing 30th after averaging a sum of 193.80 across her five games. The Spartans finished in 11th place as a team.
