Spartans Travel to North Carolina A&T and Georgia Tech

NORFOLK, Va. --- The Norfolk State women's basketball team hits the road this weekend, taking on North Carolina A&T at 12 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 6, and Georgia Tech on Monday, Dec. 8 at 7 p.m.  

KEY STORYLINES  

The Spartans will look to pick up their first road win of the 2025-26 campaign. First-year head coach Jermaine Woods leads the Spartans. He currently sits eight wins away from career win 50.  

  • Norfolk State graduate guard Jasha Clinton currently ranks fourth in the nation in steals with 35 total steals this season. She also ranks 12th in steals per game, averaging 3.89 per game. 

  • As a team, the Spartans currently rank 18th in the nation in steals per game with 13.3 per contest, trailing Notre Dame, which leads the nation with 18.3 per game. 

  • Norfolk State picked up its third win of the season on Monday, Dec. 1, taking down Shaw 86-48 at Echols Hall. 

  • Norfolk State and North Carolina A&T meet for the 44th time in program history, with this matchup marking the second non-conference meeting between the two schools. NSU won last year's meeting 68-59 in Greensboro, N.C. 

ABOUT THE SPARTANS  

Norfolk State enters the matchup 3-6 on the season. NSU graduate guard Jasha Clinton currently leads the Spartans and ranks fourth in the nation in steals with 35 total steals this season. 

  • Norfolk State currently leads the MEAC in blocks (37), while also leading in steals (120) and steals per game (13.33)  

  • NSU ranks second in the MEAC in free-throw percentage, knocking down 71.6 percent of shots at the charity stripe 

  • Graduate guard Jasha Clinton ranks second in the MEAC in points with 13.1 ppg, while junior guard Da'Brya Clark ranks third with 13.0 ppg  

  • Senior forward Carmen Kweti ranks fourth in the conference in rebounds, averaging 6.8 rebounds per contest  

  • Clinton also leads the MEAC in total steals with 35, while also leading in steals per game with 3.9 per contest 

SERIES HISTORY VS. N.C. A&T  

The Spartans and the Aggies will meet for the 44th time in program history. The Spartans picked up a 68-59 win last season in Greensboro, N.C.  

  • N.C. A&T is 6-4 in the last 10 meetings against NSU  

  • The two teams are meeting for just the second time as nonconference opponents 

  • The Spartans won the first-ever meeting in 1997-98, 57-43 at home 

  • The Aggies' last win came in the 2020-21 season at Echols Hall, 65-60

SCOUTING THE AGGIES  

North Carolina A&T enters the contest 3-4 on the season. The Aggies took down North Carolina Central 73-67 on Dec. 2.  

  • Redshirt senior center Chaniya Clark averages 12.4 points per game, while also averaging 7.9 rebounds per contest to lead N.C. A&T  

  • N.C. A&T averages 60.1 points per game while allowing 64.9 points per contest  

  • The Aggies average 35.7 percent shooting from the field 

  • Head coach Tarrell Robinson is in his 14th season leading North Carolina A&T

SERIES HISTORY VS. GEORGIA TECH  

The Spartans will meet the Yellow Jackets for the first time in program history on Monday, Dec. 8.

ABOUT THE YELLOW JACKETS  

Georgia Tech is currently 3-6 on the season. The Yellow Jackets fell to Texas A&M on Wednesday, Dec. 3, in the ACC-SEC Challenge, 63-72.  

  • Three players for Georgia Tech currently average double figures in scoring, including Talayah Walker (13.1 ppg), Cathrine Alben (11.6 ppg), and Savannah Samuel (10.0 ppg)

  • Brianna Turnage leads the Yellow Jackets with 9.2 rebounds per game

  • GT averages 68.3 points per game, while allowing 63.7 per contest

  • The Yellow Jackets shoot 41.9 percent from the floor and 65.4 percent from the charity stripe

  • Georgia Tech head coach Karen Blair is in her first year as head coach for the Yellow Jackets

LAST TIME OUT

Norfolk State defeated Shaw 86-48 at home on Monday, Dec. 1. Da'Brya Clark led the Spartans with 25 points, eight rebounds, five steals, and three blocks.  

  • NSU shot 43.7% from the field and 38.9% from the 3-point line  

  • Four lead changes and three ties  

  • NSU forced 28 turnovers and committed just nine  

  • NSU outscored Shaw 42-16 in the paint 

  • Spartans posted 33 fast-break points to Shaw's nine

The Spartans will return home on Thursday, Dec. 11, taking on Dillard in their annual education day at 11 a.m. in Echols Hall.
