ad NORFOLK, Va. --- Norfolk State women's basketball head coach Jermaine Woods announced the signing of Ja'Cia Cunningham on Wednesday afternoon.

"Ja'Cia is poised to enhance our backcourt with her scoring ability, showcasing a unique talent for creating her own shots," Woods said. "Her commitment to the game and diligent work ethic make her an asset to the culture we're establishing. I'm thrilled to have her join Spartan Nation."

The 5-foot-9 guard from Milwaukee, Wis., played in 29 games with 10 starts at Presbyterian last season. She averaged 10.8 points and 3.4 rebounds per game, recording 16 double-figure scoring games and four 20-point performances. Cunningham posted a season-high 25 points and seven rebounds against Seattle.

"I chose Norfolk State because of the coaching staff and the winning culture," Cunningham said. "It felt like the right place to grow, compete and be part of a program that expects to win."

Before Presbyterian, Cunningham spent three seasons at Chicago State. As a sophomore, she played in eight games with seven starts and averaged 14.0 points and 3.5 rebounds per game. She scored 37 points against Evansville, the second-highest single-game total in program history.

Cunningham attended Milwaukee School of Languages, where she earned all-conference honors and averaged 11.7 points and 5.7 assists per game as a freshman. She later earned MPS City Gold Conference Player of the Year, first-team all-conference honors, and WBCA All-Star recognition. Cunningham finished her high school career with 1,111 points in three seasons.

Norfolk State finished the 2024-25 season with an 18-15 record, marking its fifth consecutive appearance in the MEAC championship game and the program's second WNIT berth. The Spartans also ranked second nationally in field goal percentage defense and third in 3-point field goal percentage defense.
